Then my brilliant husband says to me, "Now you need to sign up for a full marathon". HA! That was the craziest thing I think I had ever heard him say. You can ask anyone and they will tell you, "Vanessa doesn't run". It is a well-known fact among my close family and friends. But all of a sudden I found myself googling marathon training plans...WOW, I am really going to do this!!
So here I am, making it official...I will be running a marathon in 2013.
AHHH! No turning back now...it's out there! Not sure which one yet. I was thinking a big, gigantic one like LA Marathon, but considering cost, travel, and the amount of people, I might pick a more local race. There's a few good ones to pick from. I should have a race picked by the end of the summer or early fall.
The initial reason of why I decided to start this blog was to track my running journey to my first marathon. I need acountability...knowing that MAYBE there is someone out there (other than my loving and supportive husband and mom) reading my blog and wants to know what I've been up to in regards to my running. So I am accountable to my "readers" to train hard and log my progress.
Then, after having the initial idea to blog about my running, I realized that my running is not seperate from the rest of my life. Quite the contrary. In just the last 6 months, I have realized that my running is very much interweaved into the other components of my life. It would be impossible to ONLY write about my running. So I will be sharing my life, my ups and downs, my running, etc.
Soooo, to wrap things up, here is a quick run-down of how I plan to reach my marathon goal:
- Start from square-one! Get into shape (easier said than done!).
- Run a strong 5k.
- Move on to a 10k.
- Half marathon in the fall.
- 2013: Run at least one half-marathon in 2013 in preparation for my first marathon.
- Survive my first marathon. Perhaps under 5 hours...maybe? Possible? My husband thinks so :)
